The Human Algorithm Collaboration Lab (HACLab) at Emory University is expanding and currently seeking applicants for two exciting positions at the intersection of artificial intelligence, clinical data science, and cancer care delivery.

1. Postdoctoral Researcher – Large Language Models & Generative AI in Oncology

Location: Onsite (Atlanta, GA)

Position Type: Full-Time | Fixed-Term (12–24 months)

This postdoctoral position focuses on evaluating real-time AI scribing tools in oncology settings. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in NLP, LLMs, and explainable AI with an interest in trustworthiness and hallucination detection.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • - Train/fine-tune LLMs for summarization of clinical conversations.
  • - Develop hallucination detection tools and explainable outputs.
  • - Collaborate with clinicians and publish high-impact research.
  • Required Qualifications:
  • - Ph.D. in NLP, ML, Biomedical Informatics, or related field.
  • - Experience with Hugging Face Transformers, PyTorch.
  • - Publications in top AI/NLP venues.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • - Familiarity with SHAP/LIME, EHRs, RLHF.

2. Data Scientist – Healthcare & Biomedical Data Integration

Location: on-site Emory University, Atlanta, GA

Position Type: Full-Time | Research Staff

The Data Scientist will support large-scale integration and analysis of real-world oncology datasets, working closely with investigators to build reproducible pipelines, generate analytical outputs, and co-author research findings.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • - Process large-scale EHR, claims, genomics, and biomarker data.
  • - Build longitudinal datasets and develop mappings for ICD, staging, and biomarkers.
  • - Perform quality checks, manage SLURM-based HPC pipelines.
  • Required Qualifications:
  • - Bachelor’s (2+ yrs) or Master’s (1+ yr) in Data Science, Bioinformatics, or related field.
  • - Strong data wrangling and documentation practices.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • - Familiarity with ICD/CPT/SNOMED coding, NGS or biomarker data.
  • - Experience with markdown-based documentation and scientific writing.
